Written in the form of a series of letters, the Uncle Eric series takes what appears to be a subject too difficult for the average citizen (economics and government), and makes it easy to understand. Richard Maybury has chosen to use letters to a friend, Chris, to teach what he is most passionate about.

The publishers of Uncle Eric books have put together study guides for each of the books. These study guides have vocabulary words, short answer questions, discussion questions, further reading suggestions, and suggested topics for the student to research deeper.

Uncle Eric's Model is flexible. You can use it any way you see fit. Some people choose one book to concentrate on for a semester or a year. I've chosen to have my children read all the books in one school year. This is pretty intense, but I hope the concentration of material and the quick pace will keep them interested. My goal is for the boys to read 4 letters each day (4 days a week) and do the vocabulary and short answers from the guides. We will meet each day to discuss what was read the day before.
