Are you teaching your child to recognize his letters? These 8 page books will be a great help. There is a book for each letter of the alphabet. Each page has a simple, colorful picture of something that begins with that book's letter. The books are color-coded: blue for consonants and red for vowels.

When my son was learning to recognize his letters (this was the year before we planned on beginning a phonics program), he learned a letter each week. He collected things around the house that began with that letter. All of the items were put into a box and a large letter of the week was placed on front. We left the box in the living room all week so we could talk about it at those teaching moments. We also took a picture of our son with his box of things each week to put in a small photo album. This became his personal Alphabet Book. If one of his brothers' names started with a the letter, they stood in or near the box for the picture.



These Alphabet Books would be great to do along with this on going project. Use them with the Phonemic Awareness Reading Rods for some kinesthetic activities.

They would also work really well with Carrie Austin's Little Hands To Heaven.
