I enjoy reading cookbooks. I guess I hope that reading them will sneak into the corner of my brain that I cook with and improve my cooking. Not all cookbooks are readable though. My favorite one was written by a lady that runs a bed and breakfast in Missouri. As I read that book I felt like I was sitting at her kitchen table talking to her about her chicken soup recipe (it's delicious). It is a living book.

A living book is written by someone who loves the subject they are writing about. It could be fiction or non-fiction. For example,the best way to learn about American History is to read books such as Laura Ingalls Wilder's book Farmer Boy or Elizabeth George Speare's book The Sign of The Beaver. Geography, science, dog training and even house cleaning (have you read Is There Life After Housework) can be learned painlessly with living books. If you want to know more check out these books:
