Language Arts Curriculum
and
Supplemental Activities

Unlike math which is very systematic and follows a logical order, the order in which Language Arts is taught is more arbitrary. Some curriculum teach the parts of speech every year until the student is bored to tears, others suggest waiting until they are older and learning them in one shot. Some teach every subject (spelling, grammar, writing, vocabulary etc.) as a separate thing, while others combine them all and integrate them together.

Language Arts should be taught on a regular basis, but the methods can be altered depending on your teaching style, your student's learning style, their age, and interests at the time.

After learning to read, learning to write is one of the most important things to learn. We learn to read to learn what others have to stay, but we learn to write so we can communicate to others what we want to say. They are both skills that everyone will need throughout their whole life. Choose a curriculum that will teach your child to write well and you will be doing him a big favor.

Probably the single best thing you can do to help your child in Language Arts is to read, read, read aloud to him and have him read, read, read to himself. The more he reads (good literature), the better writer, thinker, speller, conversationalist, etc. he will be.
