The Dow Family

Our family began homeschooling in 1991 when our son, Matthew was 5 years old. Our intention was to take "one year at a time" and try our best to keep abreast of our son's advancement. Several concerns motivated our decision to school our child at home. First, public schools were advancing children to the next grade level without teaching them. Illiterate children were graduating high school. This was not right. Then there was the problem of morality. Humanism was quite popular in the 1990's and we wanted to teach our child how to made decisions in life based on a reverence and respect for God and His Divine Word, not on what he felt or thought was right or wrong. So we launched into the world of home schooling. Fourteen years later, and with an additional 5 children we continue to home school "one year at a time".

We have six sons.

Matthew is now 18 years old, a good student, but his love is baseball. We enrolled him in public school last year so he could pursue his dream of playing baseball. He did well in school, but he realized he was just wasting time. He decided to come home again. After looking at our options, we graduated him and he is now a full-time student at the local junior college. After finishing 2 years at the local junior college he will be attending a state university.

James is 14 years old and plays a mean boogie on the piano. He is discovering that math is his strong point. He really enjoys getting together with the other home schooled boys in this area. I think he's my "Socialable Sam".

Andrew is 12 years old. He really enjoys playing baseball. He is a well-rounded student that does well at whatever he attempts. He has found that when he puts his mind to it he can compose hymns.

Timothy is 9 years old. He's learning that growing up requires more responsibility. He wants to be a composer. He enjoys learning about music history. He really enjoys the piano. His most recent endeavour is playing the violin. I'll let you know how it goes. He asks really good questions. I just wish I always had the answer available. I usually point him to a book he can find it out in. Of course, that's usually too much trouble.

Jonathan is 4. He is learning so much everyday. He talks all the time and loves to practice writing and sounding out his letters. He argued with me when I told him there were 2 a's in his name. He thinks they should be u's. What could I say?

Benjamin is a fast growing 2 year old that loves to get into everything. He keeps us busy. His vocabulary is growing daily. So is his independence. He says "no" a lot. He really means it when he wrinkles his brow with that "mean" look.

The Dow Family

Diana, the mom, is the keeper of the home and teacher of the boys. She teaches piano and violin lessons from home. She has discovered a love for writing hymns. Her latest adventure is learning to make this website.

Danny has preached the gospel of Jesus Christ for over 20 years. He is presently laboring with the HUNTINGTON CHURCH OF CHRIST in Huntington, Texas.

The Dow's Schoolroom

We started The Dow's Schoolroom in 1996. We began selling only one product -- Saxon Math. Since that time we have slowly added many titles to our inventory. It is our desire to promote homeschooling and provide, what we consider to be, some of the best materials and curriculums available to the home school community. We stock books and materials that have proved to be helpful in our own home school. We have personally used the majority of the books found in this catalog. This gives us (and you) the advantage of being able to offer advice based on first hand experience.

We hope to serve the entire home school community. We would certainly appreciate your patronage. We would also appreciate your sharing this website with others.
