by Geography Matters

The Trail Guides by Geography Matters are an excellent way to teach and learn Geography. Each book is designed to be used in one year, but may be used over two years if you want to get more in depth. The three levels allow all your family to study the same thing at the same time. Some curriculum promotes itself as easy to use with multiple ages, but Geography Matters' Trail Guides really are easy to use. Our family has used the US Trail Guide with children ages 8, 11 and 13.

The basic format includes:

Suggestions for mapping with younger children.

Research, Writing and other projects

Questions to be answered orally or in writing.

Divided into three difficulty levels.

As you can see there is a lot of material included here. As with any curriculum, take a look at it and decide what you want your child to do. Our family is using the Trail Guide to US Geography. We are also studying US history extensively, so we have chosen to do Mapping and Geography Trails. We are completing two states and week, but you can also do one state per week. That would definitely allow more time for Trail Blazing.
