Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek!Karen Mohs has made what seems impossible -- teaching our children Greek -- quite easy. Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! is a very easy to use, kid friendly curriculum that teaches the basics of Koine Greek. Starting with the alphabet and continuing to learn vocabulary and grammar, this curriculum has been a big hit at our house. The hardest thing about the curriculum is deciding which level to start on. Level 1 is very basic. It takes one letter per lesson. Each letter can be studied for an entire week. My 8 year old found it comfortable to finish one per day. Level 2 starts with the alphabet, but moves at a much quicker pace. My 11 year old started at this level and has moved through it easily. Unless your child already knows the Greek alphabet, I wouldn't start above Level 2. Now that you've done the hard stuff, you're probably wondering just what all you need to buy to actually use the curriculum. Of course, the Student Workbook is a must. This is a consumable book, so plan on buying one for each child that plans on studying Greek. The Flashcards on a Ring are a nice addition, but if you are counting your pennies, you can make your own with the reproducible flashcards in the back of each Student Workbook. Now you need to decide what type of Teacher materials, if any, you need. The "Answers Only" Answer Key is a small booklet that has just what it says -- Answers Only. This is a great money saver, and is probably enough, at least for the earliest levels. The "Full Text" Answer Key is a duplicate of the Student Workbook with the answers filled in. It also includes: a brief proposal for scheduling the lessons, teacher tips, and Some English derivatives of the Greek words taught at that level. For those of us who don't know Greek at all the "Full Text" Answer Key is really helpful at Level 3 and above. The choice is yours. You don't need both. If you want to test your kids, there is a Quiz/Exam book available. There are also Pronunciation CDs available. Each CD covers 2 levels, so you just need to buy one every other level. There is not a Pronunciation CD for level 7. If you are musically talented (or at least read a little music) you can buy the Greek Alphabet Song Sheet Music. A new addition to Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! is the Bible Copybook. Level 3 would be a good time to start this. The same Copybook will be used for the whole series. By the time your child is through, he will have copied and translated the entire book of John. Now that's something to brag to the grandparents about. Oh, I almost forgot. There is a Reader. This is more of a picture book that introduces your child to the Greek alphabet. The Reader is designed for the very young. It should be left on the shelf with all the other picture books and read to your child frequently. That way, Greek isn't "greek" to him. Click on the bookcovers below for prices and "Buy Me Buttons".
