I've used Classical Academic Press's Latin for Children and loved it. I'm about to start using Song School Latin in a co-op for young kids. I'm so excited about it. It looks like such fun and can be done in short sessions. I love the music and the choice of vocabulary.

I had a copy of Song School Latin sitting in the living room the other day to see if it was what we wanted to use. My 8 year old found it and started looking through it. He came into the kitchen where I was and said, "Mom, I want a canis." I asked where he learned that word. He said it was in the book with the monkey on it. He's going to love this co-op class.

So, what's so special about Song School Latin? First of all, there is music -- fun music -- 30 songs. The songs all help to teach and review the vocabulary learned. Be sure to click on the samples below. One is a sample of the music. The lessons are laid out in a very teacher and student friendly format. The vocabulary consists of everyday words -- body parts, food, greetings, etc. There are activities, hand-writing practice, stories fun illustrations to help cement the vocabulary in the students mind.

Why would you want to teach Latin to children so young? Because they don't know it's hard. They think of it like a game. It's fun for them. Giving them the background and introducing the idea of Latin to them at a young age will decrease the fear factor that often comes in the later years. Around here, the little guys want to do just what they're big brothers are doing. They think everyone learns Latin.
