History Pockets by Evan-Moor are a great way to let your elementary student get a feel for life in the past. This series of 8 books cover American History and Ancient Civilizations.
Each book in the series will have your child making his own book of pockets. Each pocket will be filled with work your child has completed about that period of history. Everything you need is included except for simple arts/crafts supplies that can easily be obtained at your local arts/craft store.
Your child will be reading, writing and creating a variety of projects that will totally involve in the process which will in turn cause him to remember the history better.
I have used History Pockets with my own children. They look forward to it each day. I am currently using Life in Plymouth Colony with my 8 year old and Colonial America with my 11 year old. They work very well with our oral reading of A History of US.
