By the time your child is in the third grade, he has accomplished quite a lot. He is probably reading fluently or almost fluently. He may have read his first chapter book (always a thrill for child and parent). He probably has a ton of questions about all sorts of things. What Your Third Grader Needs To Know will not only answer many of those questions, it will stretch his knowledge base to include all kinds of things he never even thought about.

If you third grader is reading well on his own, he might want to read this book silently also. I have made charts for my kids with each item from the Table of Contents listed. As they finished reading a section (they can do this in any order they would like) they put a sticker on the chart. When the chart is finished, we go celebrate and do something fun. In the process, they have learned a lot of new stuff and experienced the satisfaction of completing a large job on their own. What an accomplishment.
