Bulletin Boards

If you have any wall space in your room, turn it into a teaching space. Bulletin Boards are a great way to teach. The visual learner will pick up more from a bulletin board than from listening to the teacher talk. Even the restless student with wandering eyes will learn something when he's not even expecting it.

There are so many great ideas for bulletin boards. Just be sure to keep it relevant to the lesson at hand, change it frequently, and make sure it teaches Bible truths.

So you don't have an actual bulletin board on your wall. You don't need one. In fact, I prefer not to have one. They tend to limit the size of whatever I am trying to do. If you want a wall to look like it has a bulletin board on it, buy some bulletin board paper (even newsprint will work). Staple it to the wall. Put a border around it, and voila! You have a bulletin board.

Don't forget some of the areas of your room that might be overlooked. Use the back of the door -- when it is shut, it can be a great teaching tool. Use spaces beside, above and below chalk/marker boards. Every space can become a teaching tool in your classroom.

Of course, this should all be done in good taste. I have been in some classrooms that were so busy, I felt like I couldn't concentrate on just one thing. Try to look at your classroom like your students would. Is it inviting? Does it feel comfortable? Is it a room that encourages the child to come back again and again?

Below are some books that might help you decorate your room with bulletin boards that teach. Use the ideas in these books just as they are, or let them be a spring board of inspiration to create your own original Bulletin Boards.
