Once I started teaching Bible classes, I began to look at toys in a different light. Some of them are great for teaching God's Word to babies and toddlers. Preschoolers can even benefit from some of these 3-D visual aids.
When choosing toys for the Bible Class be sure that they will add to the lesson not take away. I found what I thought would be a great teaching toy once. It was a large stuffed bumble bee that had two baby bees with it. When you squeezed it it shook and buzzed. Aside from the fact that mother bees don't really take care of tiny baby bees, the shaking and buzzing was so loud and obnoxious that it distracted the babies (even scared some of them). It is definitely not included in Bible Class toys anymore.
Toys for the Bible class can be found in many different places. Of course, you can look on this website for starters, but there are many that can be found other places. My favorite place for finding good ones are the Kids Meals at the fast food restaurants. I have been known to make my whole family buy Kids Meals for lunch so we can get enough toys for my Bible class. Every once in a while, ask to see what toddler toys they have available. These toys are durable, attractive and some of them make great visuals for the Bible class.
Clearance aisles at toy stores are another great place to go. Don't forget your own kid's toy box. Many times the toy you need will be gladly donated by your child, or you can return it home after you are through with it.
